Chia seeds are the new, must have superfood to include in your diet. These tiny tiny black seeds pack a punch of health benefits.
- They are LOADED with antioxidants - these are good for anti-ageing and can help prevent cancer
Packed full of omega-3 and fibre which is good for your heart and helps reduce the risk of diabetes- not to mention giving you lovely skin and shiny hair :)
Chia seeds are high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and protein. All of these nutrients are essential for bone health
I have discovered that chia seeds are really easily to put into your diet - as they taste like nothing and are not very noticeable.
I would use one tablespoon per person - but you can have up to 2 tablespoons a day.
Here is one of my favourite recipes to incorporate the chia into your breakfast:
Super Chia Seed & Blueberry porridge
4 tablespoons of oats
Small pack of blueberries
1 tablespoon of chia seeds
Teaspoon of cinnamon (Optional)
(Of course some milk)
Add your oats to the bowl along with the cinnamon and chia seeds
Mix together well then add your milk gradually (about 3/4 of a mug)
Pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes then stir - you can put in in for longer if you want it thicker, or it will thicken on standing
Add your blueberries in the middle - I like to use 2 handfuls per person - then finish it off with a squiggle of honey.
I like to enjoy chia when I have more time to make breakfast at the weekend - so if you don't eat them everyday then they last quite a long time. Be aware that they get everywhere easily because they are tiny so it is easier to transfer them into a tupperware box!
Chia seeds are available at Holland & Barrett or at any health food store for about £8 for 350g (a large-ish bag).
